Mentoring Program

Mentors are adults who volunteer their time and energy in developing a relationship with a young person in the community. The program includes team mentoring as well as traditional (one adult to one child) mentoring. Team mentoring involves couples or families working together to mentor a child.

Mentors are recruited from local clubs, service organizations and congregations. Mentor candidates are required to complete a thorough application/screening process including a social and family history, reference checks, and a criminal background check.

Children and adolescents living in the Ely area are eligible to participate in the Mentoring Program. Application and approval by a parent or guardian is required.

Through mentoring programs, young people are connected with positive, caring adults to foster the development of strong, supportive relationships. Involvement in a mentoring relationship can inspire young people to set goals, raise their expectations of themselves and establish a long-term relationship with an adult as a friend and advocate.

"My mentor is always there when I need her." - Mentoring Program youth participant

"The mentoring program gave my daughter a good friend who has her best interests at heart." - Parent of Mentoring Program participant
